Internet Jargon

Definition of "jargon" according to dictionary.com: the language, esp. the vocabulary, peculiar to a particular trade, profession, or group

Okay. So...we aren't exactly a particular 'trade' or 'profession' or 'group'. The online society is just a community where people get to meet other people from over the world who are interesting (what a dead word ==), talented and *stick your own adjective in here*. I'm just going to list out a few words that I was confused with when I first started living on surfing the web.

Affiliates: Affiliate is actually a verb, but in our community, it is a site which you visit and often exchange links with.

Blacklist: A list of people who are despised have broken the rules to a site.

CN: CN stands for 'Cutenews' (at least that's what I've seen). Cutenews is something you can embed on to your site for easy access to publishing things. For instance, trang, soiia and mimi at Serenity use Cutenews to update their blog.

CSS: Stands for 'Cascading Style Sheet'. Often placed between <> tags, it codes for many things in your layout that will always turn out that. For example, you code to have all of your text purple (Yes! Purple is sexy!) over a black background in the CSS.

Div Layout: A layout made using dividers. I believe most people start out coding div layouts because it's probably one of the simplest out there. (Personal opinion near the end)

Fan Fiction: As the name suggests, fan fiction (sometimes called fanfic) is a fictional story written by a fan about celebrities or manga or anime or whatever.

iFrame Layout: A layout which you can link things to show up in a specific "frame". It has nothing to do with iPods. I think.

Kim Jaejoong: Cute, dorky, sexy

PS / PS-er: So...er...what's PS? It's Photoshop, a graphics designing program. Hence, PS-er is Photoshopper, a person who uses the program Photoshop.

PSP: Stands for Paintshop Pro, another graphics designing program.

Soompi.com: A site with a resourceful forum and loads of other information. Mostly about Kpop.

Winglin.net: An awesome site where anyone can post their original fanfics. Mostly Asian. Also has a wonderful forum full of wonderful people. No sarcasam. I met so many good friends there.

Wordpress: Similar to Cutenews, Wordpress offers to embed your blog onto your site. Ling Jie at Dream uses WP. Elaine, my hostess, also uses WP.
